My grandparents moved from mainland China to Taiwan at the end of World War II, taking next to nothing with them. After settling in Taiwan, my grandfather worked in the judicial branch of government, while my grandmother stayed home to care for her four young children. Life was challenging in every way, yet through her tenacity, foresight, and wise money management, she was able to invest in real estate by buying single-family homes one at a time. My grandmother managed to purchase and hold on to a hand-full of properties before she went to be with the Lord—four years before I was born.

My father became ill about three years ago. He had been living alone in Taiwan since I moved to the United States 35 years ago. Upon learning of his illness, I flew to Taiwan to figure out how to care for him. In the process, I discovered the properties that my grandmother had purchased so many years ago and that had remained in the family ever since. My father had managed the tenants before he became ill, and I quickly realized that I needed to take over the property management responsibilities and use the income from these properties to support his care.

The experience was bittersweet as I uncovered family history, much of which I didn’t know before. It’s incredible to me that, although I never met my grandmother, I can still experience her love and care—for my father and for me—across so many years. What she left behind was not only a legacy but also a solution for a very challenging situation.

I am deeply grateful for what my grandmother accomplished during her lifetime. Her work provided the tools I needed to help her family. It also gave me a renewed appreciation for real estate and a stronger drive to invest for my own family and my family’s future. I want to leave a legacy and a way to sustain a set of values that can last for multiple generations.

My wife and I started Oak Seven Investments with the belief that real estate offers a powerful means—more so than many other types of investments—to build wealth, create financial and time freedom, and establish a lasting legacy not only for ourselves but also for our friends and family. We believe that the opportunity to invest wisely is not scarce; rather, it is abundant and worth sharing. It is our sincere desire to connect with like-minded investors who would like to join us on a journey to build our legacies together. If this resonates with you, we’d love to hear from you.
